India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) announced the appointment of Ruchita Sharma to the newly created post of Executive Director, Promotions, Marketing and Business Development. A 20-year veteran with qualifications in marketing, luxury management and travel, Sharma will be responsible for national and international events, promotions, marketing, business development, logistics and international ventures.
Speaking about her new role at the GJEPC, Sharma said, “A robust promotion and marketing ecosystem is vital for the growth of the Indian gem & jewellery export sector. Over the years, the GJEPC has done an excellent job to take this industry to the current stature that it enjoys through its various promotional activities globally, including participation in international exhibitions, organising buyer-seller meets etc. Our focus would be to give maximum mileage by enhancing our reach in the existing markets and tapping new ones, thus furthering the growth of industry.”
According to a GJEPC press release, Sharma has worked closely with family-run global organisations like Swarovski, Salvatore Ferragamo, Oberoi Hotels and Resorts, Taj Hotels Palaces and Resorts. She understands what makes family businesses successful in emerging markets, and how to maintain their brand values, ethos and profitability.
She was named among the50 most talented retail professionals of India by the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Council as well as among the 50 most talented CMOs of India by the World Marketing Congress. She has represented India at the India Business Forum at the London Business School and has curated roundtable discussions on luxury with Altagamma and Comite Colbert. An avid traveler and freelance writer, her book ‘Ultimate Luxury’ in association with American Express, was released in November 2008.
