Rio Tinto kicked off its world preview of the 2016 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender, titled the Chroma Collection, in Copenhagen alongside a unique exhibition of rare pink diamond jewellery, in recognition of the importance of Denmark in the story of Australia’s most valuable gems.
Mary, the Crown Princess of Denmark and Countess of Monpezat is Australian born(née Mary Elizabeth Donaldson).
The exhibition was hosted by Denmark’s premier luxury jeweller Hartmann’s at the Moltkes Palace in Copenhagen. All of this year’s collection has been recovered from the Argyle underground mine in Western Australia, which became operational in 2015.
This year’s collection consists of 57 pink, two violet and four red diamonds. Five of the stones are “hero diamonds” that have been named. The Argyle Violet, a 2.83-carat oval-cut violet diamond, is the centrepiece of the collection.
Following the Copenhagen exclusive preview, the tender will be showcased during invitation-only viewings in Hong Kong, New York and Perth and bids will close on October 12.
