ALROSA announced it had sold 99 special size (each over 10.8 carats) gem-quality diamonds weighing an aggregate 1,532 carats at its recently concluded auction in New York. Total revenue from the sale of the stones amounted to $7 million, translating to an average $4,569 per carat.
Auction participants included companies from the United States, Belgium, India, Israel and the UAE.
"We completed our third diamond auction in the US this year. Undoubtedly, the current difficult situation in the market has a direct impact on sales results, and we see a slight decrease in demand. Nevertheless, auctions continue to attract new customers. The latest auction was attended by 80 companies, 25 percent of which were customers from the US," said ALROSA United Selling Organisation Director Evgeny Agureev.
The three auctions ALROSA has held in the US this year have raised a total of about $30 million. The next auction for special size rough diamonds in New York will take place in the fall.
